Which airport is closest to Imsouane?
Agadir Al Massira (AGA) is the nearest airport to Imsouane, roughly two hours away by road. Marrakech Menara is the other realistic option, at about three and a half to four hours. Distance is only half the decision, though: Marrakech is Morocco’s busier gateway, so it often has the flight you actually want, on the day you want it.
The rule of thumb is simple. Agadir wins on the ground, Marrakech wins in the air. Compare the whole door-to-door journey rather than the drive alone.

How long is the drive, really?
From Agadir it is one road for most of the way: north along the coast past Taghazout and Tamri, then a signed turn-off and a winding descent to the bay. Two hours is a fair estimate. Traffic getting out of Agadir, roadworks and slow lorries on the climbs can stretch it, and the final stretch is not a road to hurry.
From Marrakech there are two sensible ways down.

Both get you in at a similar time. Take the Essaouira route if you want to break the journey, the motorway if you just want to get in the water.
Which airport has better flight connections?
Marrakech generally offers the wider choice: more airlines, more European cities and more year-round frequency. Agadir’s schedule leans seasonal, with a strong winter programme from northern Europe — which lines up neatly with the most consistent north-west Atlantic swell from September to April.
Run the numbers on the whole trip. A single direct flight into Marrakech plus a four-hour drive is usually a better day than a two-leg routing into Agadir with a tight connection. If fares and timings are close, take Agadir.
What about the transfer itself?
We arrange transfers from Agadir (about two hours) or Marrakech (about four); guests send flight details when booking. The Agadir run is the cheaper of the two simply because it is shorter, and Marrakech costs noticeably more. Fares in general move with distance, luggage and how late you land. If you would rather sort your own transport, agree the fare before you set off rather than on arrival. Public buses run along the coast between Agadir and Essaouira, but Imsouane sits off the main road, so you are usually dropped at the turn-off and need a local taxi for the last leg. It is the cheapest way to travel and the least predictable.
Do you need a hire car?
Not to surf. The line-up is about five minutes from the surf house, and boards and wetsuits are included in lessons and surf weeks.
A car earns its keep if you want to explore. There are more than fifteen spots between Imsouane and Agadir, including Anchor Point at Taghazout, plus Paradise Valley inland. Picking up in Marrakech and dropping in Agadir counts as a one-way rental and usually carries an extra fee, so returning to the same airport is normally simpler.
Landing late at night
Both drives are doable after dark, but the coast road is unlit in places and the descent into Imsouane is narrow and twisting. With a late landing, Agadir is the clear choice — two hours instead of four at the end of a travel day. If your schedule allows it, book an arrival that gets you in before sunset. It is a much better first look at the bay.
