What age can children start?
Our kids lesson is for children from age six, and it runs an hour and a half rather than the full two hours. That length is deliberate: ninety minutes is roughly how long most small children stay warm, focused and still enjoying themselves. Board and wetsuit are included, so there is nothing to hire separately.
Older children and teenagers who already have some water confidence often do better in the standard two-hour group lesson alongside their parents, which keeps the family in one session. We do not teach children under six.
Is Magic Bay safe for kids?
Magic Bay is a right-hand point break of roughly 800 metres that peels over sand for much of its length. A sand bottom and a long, unhurried wall are the two things that make a wave forgiving, and beginners spend their first sessions in the whitewater on the inside rather than out on the point.
The other wave here, Cathedral Point, sits on the exposed side of the headland. It is more powerful and breaks over rock, and it is not a place we teach children.
Wind matters as much as swell. Mornings are usually the cleanest, with onshore wind building after midday, so children’s sessions are best booked early.

A 3/2 wetsuit covers most of the year for children as well as adults, and we stock 3/2 and 4/3 in every size. Imsouane gets around 340 days of sun a year, so the air is rarely the problem — the swell size is what decides whether a young beginner has a good week.

Where do families stay?
Guests stay in the surf house, about five minutes from the line-up, and there are rooms that suit families travelling together. The rooftop is used for yoga, for sunset and for shared evening meals.
Tafukt is family-run: two surfing brothers, Mhend and Mohamed, and their mother Aïcha, who bakes bread each morning and cooks slow tajines and mint tea. We think of it as opening our home rather than running a hotel, which is usually what makes it work with children — and also what makes it the wrong fit for some families.

When we are not the right choice
Be honest with yourself about three things.
Age. Under six, we cannot help you yet.
Season. If your only free window is December to February, the surf is at its biggest and the bay at its busiest. Adults will love it; a six-year-old on a first board may spend the week on the inside, and some days will not suit them at all.
Level. Our Surf Development Week is for intermediates and up, with video analysis and spot-chasing by 4x4. It is not a children’s programme.
Imsouane is also a working fishing village with a harbour where the boats land, not a resort strip. Families who want a large hotel with organised entertainment between sessions will be happier elsewhere.
Getting here with kids
The nearest airport is Agadir Al Massira (AGA), roughly two hours away by road. Essaouira is about 90 minutes north and Marrakech three and a half to four hours.
A transfer we arrange is the simplest option with children, car seats and board bags — send your flight details when booking. Shared and local transport costs noticeably less but involves changes, which is harder with tired children. Hiring a car costs more than the bus but gives you the freedom to reach Paradise Valley or the Agadir souk on a flat day. If you take a taxi independently, agree the fare before setting off; rates move with the season, the hour and how much luggage you have.
